Help Children affected by the earthquake in
VENEZUELA
Two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude have struck central Venezuela, causing widespread damage in areas around Caracas and forcing families from their homes.
As rescue teams, including Save the Children, search for people trapped beneath collapsed buildings, thousands of children are facing fear, uncertainty and the loss of everything they know.
Communications and power have been disrupted in some areas, and aftershocks continue to put families at risk.
Limited access to basic services and the ongoing threat of aftershocks make it urgently necessary to provide shelter, food, clean water, healthcare and psychosocial support.
Children are among the most vulnerable in any emergency. Many may have lost their homes, been separated from loved ones, or be living without reliable access to food, clean water, healthcare and safe shelter.
Save the Children is responding
Save the Children is assessing the situation on the ground and working with our staff and local partners to understand urgent needs and support affected families as quickly as possible.
Emergency funds have already been mobilised to support a rapid response. As needs become clearer, we are seeking the support of our network to ensure our teams can provide essential assistance, including:
- Safe shelter for displaced children and families
- Food, clean water and emergency supplies
- Healthcare and psychosocial support
- Child protection services and safe spaces for children
“Children are among the most vulnerable following these earthquakes. Many will have lost their homes, and continued aftershocks are causing further fear and distress while increasing the risk of additional damage and casualties,” said Fátima Andraca, Country Director of Save the Children in Venezuela. “While it will take time to understand the full extent of the destruction, experience tells us that children will urgently need support to access shelter, food, clean water and medical care. Some may have become separated from their families amid the chaos and could face increased risks of exploitation and abuse.”
Acting quickly is vital to protect children and prevent the long-term consequences of this emergency.
Our work in Venezuela
Save the Children has been working in Venezuela since 2019. Since then, we have supported more than 270,000 people, including 150,000 children.
In addition to supporting communities across Venezuela, we have worked for years along the Colombia–Venezuela border. Our programmes help protect children from violence, exploitation and neglect, while also supporting their mental health and wellbeing.
