Participation Mechanisms and Practices in
SPAIN

Below are some of the main national-level mechanisms and platforms that, due to their scope and established presence, are key benchmarks for children's participation throughout the country. This initial selection is open to including new initiatives as the project progresses.

Consejo Estatal de Participación de la Infancia y de la Adolescencia (CEPIA)

It is the highest-level advisory body for children's participation within the General State Administration. It is composed of 34 children and young people aged 8 to 17 from across Spain, seeking to represent territorial and experiential diversity

Confederación Estatal de Asociaciones de Estudiantes (CANAE)

The main network of student associations at the national level. It represents and defends the rights of students in non-university education, channelling their voice and proposals to public administrations and the educational community.

Plataforma de Infancia

An organisation that, through strategies like 'La Infancia Opina' (Childhood Opinion) and 'Cibercorresponsales' (Cyber-correspondents), actively promotes the participation of children and young people so that their voices and demands regarding their rights are integrated into public policy.

UNICEF España

It promotes the Child-Friendly Cities programme, the National Meetings of Participation Councils, the U-Report digital platform for young people, and its own Youth Advisory Group.

Fundación EDUCO

Develops the 'Activa la Escucha' (Activate Listening) campaign, aimed at creating spaces for participation and listening for children and young people in educational and child protection settings, including minors with intellectual disabilities.
